  What is Integrated Process Analytics?

Drug Discovery A process analytics integrator is a company that helps customers enhance their process by adding measurements, modelling and controls to operate the augmented system in a domain of desirable operating states.  This drives speed, efficiency and cost containment throughout their value chain.

Protasis realized that its customers needed a more flexible and streamlined instrumentation partner in order to remain competitive in a market where the number of measurements required is exploding, where labor and reagents and leads are precious and where unfamiliar new technologies are evolving and hyphenating together.  Customers face changing requirements where a geometrically expanding pool of  process information must be converted to knowledge in real-time.  Simplexification is mandatory just to stand in place.

To prosper, managers must focus on how they can contain costs in their process and yet respond to the time-dependent marketplace with innovative products. Protasis knew that a transition to a more flexible and streamlined instrument design was inevitable.  Miniaturization and integration lead to new functionality, a process that is just beginning in target molecular analysis.  The molecules themselves are small--so should be the instruments.  Protasis, as the industry leader and visionary, took on this challenge. To respond, Protasis saw that it needed to offer more than just standard instruments. The company needed to become a process analytics integrator.

As the world's premier process analytics integrator, Protasis will offer customers the broadest, most comprehensive and seamless suite of on-line, at-line and in-line target molecule analysis solutions in the industry. This means that customers can turn to Protasis at any stage of their process, anywhere in the world, and get the highest-quality, most flexible solutions to optimize their existing process monitoring and control systems.

The company's objective is to embed multiple, miniaturized sensors directly into customer processes and connect them into a specialized intranet, called a virtual analyzer.  This sensory net is aware of the target process and is combined with a computational reference model to create a Virtual ImageTM of the real-world process within the Protasis virtual analyzer.  Actual process variations can then be compared with the reference model and control variables can be adjusted to drive a process back to a desired operating state.

Protasis virtual analyzers maximize process knowledge and control  - all in an effort to help customers attain the highest process performance with the lowest total operating costs, while helping them ensure the most efficient allocation of their scarce raw material, human and energy resources.

One of the most significant decisions Protasis made in 1999 was to initiate an organizational change to position the company as the world's premier process analytics integrator.

The company began forming design centers near major microfabrication and research centers to better serve its client customers.  These centers each have their own competency (e.g., microfluidics or electromagnetics or separation chemistries), but are also experts at integrating the entire broad set of Protasis component technologies into customer processes.  Our six design centers are themselves networked and, thus, bring together complementary capabilities into a highly efficient and responsive Protasis virtual enterprise.  And together with our customer collaborators, integrated process analytics reaches even further to form the design communities, Ecotas and Biotas.
